On Saturday, 12 April 2001, a special "Community Outreach"
Event was held at Atlanta's "Love Corner" to reach out to
surrounding neighbors and raise awareness about health and social
issues pertinent to the community. The event also introduced U.H.O.P.
Atlanta to many residents who might have been reluctant to attend
a service without invitation. Elder W. Brooks gave guests a tour of
the sanctuary while Atlanta's Band "The Madison Redeemers"
rendered soul-stirring music. Apostle M. Johnson, Pastor, welcomed
everyone and extended an open invitation to visitors to attend services.
As a result, Atlanta's congregation was blessed with a new member,
Bro. Tellas Brand, who joined within weeks after having first attended
this event. Guest Speakers and community organizations participating in this
event included Dr. C. Thrasher of the Rainbow Push Coalition, Sis.
Stephanie Williams - Department of Family & Children Services
(DFCS), Sis. Judy Elks - American Cancer Society, The American Diabetes
Association, Dr. Hacker - South Fulton Health Services, Sis. Lucretia
White - Vision Care, Sis. Ivey Adkins - Teen Bridge, Inspector Mayberry-Atlanta
Police Department and Sis. Annie Rhodes. Back to FOR ALL PEOPLE - Summer 2001 uhop.org
