The Shaws: Atlanta Originals
Families are the foundation
of a church. Each quarter, For ALL People seeks to recognize families
that form the foundation of UHOP Atlanta. If UHOP Atlanta has an "Original
Family," then that family would be the Shaws.
St. W. Dell Shaw brought the family into
the church. She joined the UHOP after meeting Missionary Beatrice Vaughns
who had been dispatched to Atlanta by Bishop McCollough through Apostle
Gibson of Savannah, Georgia in the early 1970s. St. Shaw joined the UHOP
in Anniston, Alabama before an edifice had been established here in Atlanta.
Deacon Sherman Shaw, her husband, would later join the church in the Fall
of 1971, when Daddy McCollough opened the first Atlanta mission on Boulevard
Drive. Sister Rosalia Shaw, their daughter, was actually the first member
of Atlanta to put her name on the roll of the new mission. Sister Tammara
Shaw was born into the church.
The family credits the UHOP
for being the "glue" that kept them united and together through
rough and hard times. Being a part of the UHOP has helped the family both
spiritually and naturally. The Shaw Family is truly an "Atlanta Original"
and they are the obvious choice for the FAMILY FOCUS of this first newsletter.
